Oh fall is around the corner and is one of my favorite food seasons. The kids have been anticipating apple cider and pumpkin cheesecake, bread, cookies, and well, anything pumpkin! But today, it was chili! Mmm! Making chili makes your whole house smell yummy!

There’s lots of slow cooker chili recipes out there but occasionally, I like to make the stovetop kind. This recipe isn’t spicy (because we shared the meal with some Spanish friends). If you want it spicy, just add some tabasco or other spicy sauce or spice to it. It uses ingredients that I can regularly find in the average supermarket here in Madrid too; and yes, we ate the whole pot!

This is such an easy recipe. First brown the meet in a skillet, then add the next 7 ingredients.

Then transfer everything into a larger pot and add the rest of the ingredients.

Then boil and simmer. Super easy!

Chili Con Carne (serves 6)

Ingredients:

  • 2 lbs ground beef / 1 kg carne picada
  • 1 onion, chopped / 1 cebolla en trozos pequeña
  • 6 garlic cloves, minced / 6 diente de ajo, picada
  • 2 tsp sweet paprika / 2 cucharadita de pimiente dulce
  • 1 tsp salt / 1 cucharadita de sal
  • 3 tsp ground cumin / 3 cucharadita de comino polvo
  • 2 tsp dried oregano / 2 cucharadita de oregano
  • 1/4 tsp cayenne / 1/4 cucharadita de cayena
  • 1 red bell pepper, diced / 1 pimiento rojo en trozos pequeños
  • 1 green bell pepper, diced / 1 pimiento verde en trozos pequeños
  • 1 can whole tomatoes / 1 lata de tomates entero
  • 4 tbsp ketchup / 4 cucharada de ketchup
  • 1 jar of white beans / 1 lata de alubias
  • 1 can of beer / 1 lata de cervezas
  1. In large skillet, cook ground beef and spoon out grease. Cocina el carne y saca la grasa.
  2. When meat is browned, add onions, garlic, paprika, salt, cumin, oregano, and cayenne. Añade las cebollas, ajo, pimiente, comino, oregano, y cayena.
  3. Cook until onions are translucent. Cocina hasta las cebollas son translúcidos.
  4. Transfer to a large pot. Cambia a un olla grande.
  5. Add peppers, tomatoes, ketchup, beans, and beer. Añade pimientos, tomates, ketchup, alubias, y cerveza.
  6. Stir the pot and bring to a boil. Mezcla las ingredientes y herve.
  7. Lower the heat and simmer for 30 minutes or more, uncovered, stirring occasionally. Baja la temperatura y herve a fuego lento para 30 minutos o mas.
